Learn something new about the classics

In January, Wake County Public Libraries invite you to learn new themes on classic topics as they host discussions about literature, poetry and music in area Regional Libraries. The programs are free to the public however registration is requested.

Jan. 7

  • 7 p.m. - North Carolina Poetry: The New Meets the Old

Explore the diversity and dynamics of poetry in our state with Chris Tonelli, poetry editor/lecturer at N.C. State University.

Jan. 14

  • 7 p.m. - The Greatest Novels of all Time—or Not

Debate the classics and what makes a classic with Dr. Jim Neilson of Wake Technical Community College.

Jan. 23

  • 2 p.m. - An Introduction to Great Classical Music

Explore the elements, pleasure and history of classical music with Juergen Rathgeber, WCPE radio host.

  • 6:30 p.m. - Classic Novels into Film

Cameron Village Library (919-856-6710)

Discuss the film adaptations of “Emma,” “Jane Eyre” and “Great Expectations” with James Thompson of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
